Minibus safety – If that’s what you are looking for then talk to the minibus safety specialists – Advanced miniBus.co.uk – the UK’s minibus safety specialists. Since 1976, Advanced have prided themselves on their commitment to minibus safety. With numerous major motor manufacturers, Advanced are recognised as the minibus safety specialists in the UK. Advanced believe minibus safety is paramount when transporting children and adults alike. That is why Advanced’s minibus safety programme ensures that all our minibuses are built to twice the European minibus safety legislation – Our buses comply with the European M1 Passenger Car category safety standards for seat belt anchorages.

Currently, the legal requirement in the UK for seat belt anchorage compliance in minibuses is to comply with the European M2 (Minibus Category) standards for the strength of the seat belt anchorages. This imposes loadings on the anchorages equal to a 10g deceleration from 30mph.

However, Advanced Vehicle Builders believe this is unacceptable and that minibuses should have seat belt anchorages which will withstand the same forces as applied in testing to those in your own family car. Therefore, we test our minibuses to the more ferocious European M1 (Passenger Car Category) standards. This imposes loadings on the anchorages equal to a 20g deceleration from 30mph, which is twice that required by UK law.

So remember, in a minibus built by Advanced Vehicle Builders you have seat belt protection equal to that of your own family car – Why should you have anything less?

Advanced minibuses have been subjected to stringent strength testing of the seats, their anchorage to the bodyshell the seat belt anchorages and the seat belts themselves by MIRA (The Motor Industry Research Association). The testing was witnessed and certified as complying with European safety standards by the VCA (The Vehicle Certification Agency) who are the UK Vehicle Testing Authority.

The European standards applicable at the time of testing are:
ECE 14:03 and EEC/76/115 for the seat belt anchorages.
ECE 16:04 and EEC/77/541 for the seat belts.

The Euroseat

An operation unique amongst after-market minibus manufacturers is that Advanced Vehicle Builders manufactures all its seating systems in-house.

The full steel frames are manufactured within our our steel fabrication department enabling us to control quality and production lead times.

After being epoxy powder coated, the frames are transferred to our upholstery department who then assemble foams, covers, seat belts and headrests.

Seat foams are combustion modified high resilient and shaped in design for optimum comfort.

Seat Testing

Advanced Vehicle Builders have invested substantial sums of money in the design, manufacture and testing of the Euro Seat

After achieving European M2 strength status quite easily during testing, we realised that it was quite possible for the Euro Seat to achieve European M1 Strength Standards.

THE M1 STRENGTH STANDARD IS EQUAL TO THAT USED WHEN TESTING THE SEAT BELT ANCHORAGES IN YOUR FAMILY CAR.

Please note: The Euro Seat has been strength tested whilst being mounted in a vehicle body shell.
All testing on the Euro Seat has been carried out by The Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) at Nuneaton. All the testing was further witnessed by The Department of Transports Vehicle Certification Agency (the UK's vehicle testing authority) for official authentication purposes.

Seat Mounting

Advanced Vehicle Builders have invested heavily in the design and manufacture of our seat and seat mounting systems and have then continued to authenticate the safety standards to which the whole system has been manufactured.

A number of different manufacturers' body shells have been fitted with the Advanced IFS and Euro Seats and then been transferred to the Motor Industry Research Association at Nuneaton.

When realising how successful we were during M2 Minibus strength tests, we chose to try the ultimate achievement of M1 Passenger Car Strength Standards and have achieved this so far just as easily.

The testing was authenticated further by witnesses from The Department of Transports Vehicle Certification Agency (The UK's Vehicle Testing Authority).

Only by testing the seats mounted in the vehicle shell in this way can it be determined for certain that the seat belt anchorages in the bus you buy comply with EEC and ECE standards.

Seat Belts

Advanced Vehicle Builders ensure that only high quality approved seat belts are fitted to all our Euro Seats.

So how do we know whether or not a seat belt has been tested and furthermore, what safety standards has it achieved? These questions are answered by the label sewn into the belt. This label is more often orange in colour, but occasionally black.

The approvals to which the seat belt must comply are ECE 16:04 or EEC/77/541

Points to note when buying

It is possible to purchase a minibus which states that it contains tested seats, however, the mounting of these seats to the vehicle may not have been tested. It is possible that the mounting method renders the tested seats useless and so they cannot tell you that the whole vehicle meets all of the directives stated above.

YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE SEATS, THE SEAT BELTS, AND THE METHOD IN WHICH THEY ARE SECURED TO THE VEHICLE HAVE BEEN TESTED AND MEET WITH THE EUROPEAN DIRECTIVES STATED BELOW.

To ensure you can feel happy that the whole vehicle offers a strict form of safety for your children relating to the seat belts, you must ensure the following:-

That the seat belts have been tested and comply with European Directives EEC 77/541 and ECE 16:04 (Both as amended)

That the strength of the seats containing the seat belt anchorages, have been tested and comply with European Directives EEC/76/115 and ECE 14:03 (Both as amended)

And most importantly, that the securing of the seats to the vehicle is also in compliance with the same strength test as European Directives EEC/76/115 and ECE 14:03 (Both as amended)

The only way that all of the above requirements can be met is to conduct the test with the seats mounted in the vehicle, so that all aspects of the securing of the belts and the seats may be tested.
